Demétrius Locks

Born on June 26, 1981 in Campo Bom / RS - Brazil, Brazilian drummer Demétrius Locks studied drums with renowned drummer Kiko Freitas and guitar with the great guitarist Julio Herrlein.

Demétrius has been internationally recognized for his work with the Maracatu Rhythm applied to the drum kit, and in 2015 he released his first DVD entitled Excertos de Maracatu: Double bass applied to Brazilian rhythms and in 2016 he launched the Maracatu For Drumset series, material that highlights the percussive aspect of Maracatu on the drum kit.

Demétrius already has his name mentioned by big names in the world of drumming in specialized magazines such as: in 2016 in Drumhead (cited by Virgil Donati), Batteur Magazine 2016 (DVD review) and Modern Drummer Brasil 2010 and in 2011 in "História da Bateria no Brasil" - special edition of #ModernDrummer #100.

In 2015 he participated in the Urbann Boards Tour in the United States, holding workshops at the renowned Musicians Institute (Los Angeles), NAMM Show, interview for Drum Talk TV and workshops at drum schools in California, Hollywood, Irvine, Salinas and San Diego.

In 2016, Batteur Magazine published a review of the DVD Excertos de Maracatu and in the same year, Demétrius played alongside two big names in world drumming, the legendary Horácio El Negro Hernandes and Virgil Donati in a workshop event held by Urbann Boards.

In 2017 he traveled to France to lead the DrumCamp of the great Breizh'Drum.

Having played with Richard Powell, Edu Ardanuy, Julio Chumbinho Herrlein Trio, Luiz Mauro Filho and Daniel Breitenbach, Demétrius is currently working on producing a book about the applications of Maracatu rhythm to the drum kit, preparing a second DVD, conducting workshops, giving drum lessons, making recordings, and accompanying the band of composer Nenê Flores.
